When I first wrote this post several years ago, I had no idea that it would resonate with so many people. Gray interiors were the predominant trend for over a decade. While we’re seeing a distinct shift towards warmer neutrals and more color in our interiors, the truth is that gray will always be a classic. However, choosing the perfect light gray paint color does not come without its pitfalls like tricky undertones.
After years of testing these colors out in my clients’ homes, I wanted to upate this post for 2025 with a fresh perspective. When you choose the right gray paint color for your home, it should serve as a backdrop for the rest of your decor and not become the dominant feature. It’s a supporting character and not the star of the show. To keep your home from feeling dated, pair your light grays with natural materials like walnut, white oak, limestone, quartzite, and marble. Avoid gray on gray, and do not choose gray flooring, especially gray toned wood or LVP. (If your fixed finishes are already gray, it might be better to consider alternative paint colors for your walls.)

Worldly Gray is a greige paint color. That means that it is a blend of gray and beige. Like other greige paint colors, Worldly Gray is versatile, functional, and easy to pair with other colors.
As greiges go, Worldly Gray isn’t quite as popular as some of its counterparts, such as Agreeable Gray and Repose Gray. This is likely because it is tends to have a little more beige than them.
Additionally, Worldly Gray doesn’t tend to look quite as appealing on that tiny Sherwin Williams swatch as Agreeable Gray and Repose Gray.
Don’t let this stop you from considering Worldly Gray though. On a large scale, Worldly Gray is a beautiful color that looks great in a lot of homes

A couple of weeks ago I posted about our new home and mentioned that we were doing all of the painting ourselves. That comes with advantages and disadvantages, but one of the advantages is that when you paint 15 gallons on a wall and decide to alter the color, you can execute it without paying the painter thousands of dollars, only if you have a very patient husband of course. 🙂 Not that we did that, actually if you have been accompanying me on Instagram, you understand that we did EXACTLY that, ha ha. But I am so happy that we changed when we did and I love our new color. Male, paint can be so agonizing! So today I am demonstrating you how a slight paint change can make the nature of difference on undertones and the look and feel of a room. The competitors? Pleasant Gray and Revere Pewter. 🙂
