Why we think Mario Kart World isn’t hiding unrevealed content

Ever since its official reveal at the big Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Mario Kart World has been met with a mostly positive reception. That’s regarding the game itself, by the way – not so much the $80 price tag. With all that said, some players are wondering if Mario Kart World has hidden characters or tracks that weren’t revealed in any of the pre-release material. While we don’t exactly believe that’s the case, we’re absolutely open to being proved wrong. The more content, the better! Here’s why we think Nintendo has shown most of Mario Kart World’s content (hypothetical updates and DLC aside).

Starting with tracks, we think it’s very unlikely that Mario Kart World is hiding any courses other than Rainbow Road, which was hinted at in the Mario Kart World Nintendo Direct from last month. At the time of writing, there are 30 courses confirmed for the game. There are two different routes through Crown City and Peach Stadium, which are counted as additional courses for the purposes of Grand Prix mode. If you count both of those, then there are 32 courses in t

List of Contents

As of now, Nintendo has not announced any downloadable content or future update roadmap for Mario Kart World. However, the game launched with an impressive lineup of around 150 characters, 50 vehicles, and 28 interconnected tracks, and numerous game modes, making it the largest Mario Kart game at release.

While nothing is confirmed, it's highly possible that Mario Kart World will receive DLC in the far future in the form of a Booster Course Pass similar to the one introduced in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. This could include additional tracks, characters, and vehicles. Any future content might also be made available to all players as a free update, or as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription.

Read your review of Mario Kart Society and it all made meaning to me. Reviews seem to be coming out in the 8 to 9 range and from what I’ve played that seems to be about right. Like everyone, I’m confused as to why so little has been done with the unlock world, given how massive it is. So, like you tell, do you mark the game down for not doing something obvious or do you just accept it’s something different to what you imagined?

We all believe Nintendo is going to combine more with more DLC, but when? This year? Next year? Three year’s time? We literally have no idea. Nintendo is always secretive but this age I think it’s really hurting them, because everyone’s confused and making up their own theories. It’s silly because if they’d said: ‘We’ll have a ton of free content coming out all the time’ that would have been a real draw.

Now we don’t know what they’re doing, why they won’t reveal us, an

Mario Kart World’s Painfully Missing Characters Gives Me Hope For Some Big DLC

Mario Kart World might very well be the biggest, most ambitious entry in the series to date, but it’s also missing a lot of things - things that could be added in some of the biggest, most ambitious DLC in the series to match.

At this point, we’re well accustomed to seeing DLC following up a Mario Kart launch, whether it be the gradual additions on Wii U that made up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Switch launch, or the further Booster Course Pass that added even more characters and returning tracks during the game’s lifetime on the Nintendo Switch.

So, in light of the foundations the open-world Mario Kart World has set, what could DLC look like?

Don’t Give Us Just Tracks And Characters…

The expectation would be for new characters and tracks to be bundled together. Characters like Link, Zelda, Isabelle, Villager, and Inkling Boy/Girl are missing from the roster entirely. Admittedly, they’re not Mario characters, and this is a Mario game, but that hasn’t stopped them from appearing in the past, and their absence from this new title is palpable.

On top of that, we would normally get some trac

Mario Kart World players have a compelling theory about future DLC

Mario Kart World boasted many new exciting features when it was released alongside the Switch 2 on June 5, including a massive main roster totaling 50 playable characters. Of these, 24 are main characters and 26 are detailed as NPC racers, with main characters having access to a slew of quirky, cute, and badass outfits, while NPCs do not. However, not all of the main characters have an equal number of outfits available to them, which has caused a stir in the Mario Kart World community.

Two Nintendo mainstays have the lowest number of outfits in the game, with Donkey Kong and Pauline only having one (1) unlockable outfit each. Naturally, this led to the Mario Kart World community wondering why DK wouldn't get the royal treatment like other main characters, with some players even throwing the Mushroom Kingdom babies under the kart for having more outfits than him.

"Am I wrong, or does Donkey Kong have only 1 costume to Baby Rosalina at least 4?" someone questioned on X.

"DK only has two costumes???????? This shit is unplayable I want my money back," another person joked.

"I don’t intend to play as Donkey Kong
