Walt disney world marathon map
The runDisney community is a funny one. They return yearly to chase their dreams of character stops and photo ops through the Disney Marathon course. runDisney sent out a surprising Marathon course map this week that has some runners questioning what exactly runDisney was thinking. We’re breaking down the 2025 Walt Disney World Marathon course map to point out some changes runners can expect this year.
2025 Walt Disney World Marathon Time Change
Changes are literally underfoot- under your feet, anyway- if you are running the 2025 Disney Marathon at Disney World.
First, the race will start at 4:30 a.m. instead of the usual 5 a.m. No official reason was given for this change, but along with the course map changes, I think we can make some business-related assumptions.
Essentially, runDisney and the Disney Parks have decided that runners need to clear the roads and theme parks earlier. While it’s an assumption, I’ve seen plenty of guest feedback and discourse online about the races and think this is to help the non-runner guests have a more enjoyable experience at Disney World.
The early start is most beneficial for runners if you are a mid or back-o

The official course distance is 26.2 miles, which is the shortest possible map while staying within the course boundaries. The GPX file measures the course at 26.94 miles, so distances in the reference are approximate.
The Walt Disney Earth Marathon takes you through multiple Walt Disney World theme parks and resort areas, offering a almost entirely flat profile with only a few subtle grade changes. Starting well before sunrise near Epcot, the route travels through iconic locations, including the Magic Kingdom’s Main Street U.S.A., Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and along Disney’s Boardwalk, before returning to Epcot to finish. Runners can expect a festive atmosphere, on-course entertainment, and spectator support at key points.
You’ll begin in cool (for Florida), pre-dawn conditions. Historically the temperature is in the mid-to-high 50’s (°F) at the start with near 90% humidity. Over the course of the day, temperatures have generally approached 70°F.
Early miles unfold on flat roads head out from and back through Epcot. As day breaks, you’ll mo
WDW Marathon Weekend Information & Maps
This race weekend happens the weekend before the US’s Dr. MLK Jr. Weekend or the weekend before the second Monday in January. It is the oldest runDisney weekend and is the only race weekend to include a full marathon. The weekend includes a 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon. You can sign up for the Goofy Challenge, which consists of the Half Marathon and Marathon (39.3 miles), or the Dopey Challenge, which consists of running all 4 races (48.6 miles).
Each race is dedicated to a classic Disney character, currently the 5k is Pluto’s race, the 10k is Chip and Dale’s race, the Half Marathon is Donald and Daisy’s race, and the Marathon is Mickey and Minnie’s race.
Depending on how close to New Year’s Eve/Day the weekend happens will determine the crowd levels at the park. Historically, New Year’s Eve is one of the busiest days at the theme parks so you may still experience higher crowds the earlier in January the race weekend occurs.
