New world record elk 751
Boone and Crockett has declared a new world-record Roosevelt’s elk. Two teams of judges remeasured the entry submitted earlier this year and adjusted the score from 439-7/8 points to 455-2/8 points.
Timothy Carpenter killed the Roosevelt’s elk on Sept. 21, 2023, in Humboldt County, California. His elk smashes the previous record held by Rick Bailey, who harvested a 419-6/8-point bull elk in British Columbia in 2015. Carpenter has multiple Roosevelt’s elk in the record books, including a 2011 bull that scored 398-1/8, which is the current archery world record.
Before Carpenter’s entry could be made official, Boone and Crockett Club requires that the final score of a potential world record be verified by either an Awards Program Judges Panel or a Special Judges Panel. In Carpenter’s case, the Club held a Special Judges Panel in Verdi, Nevada. The measurers included the panel chairman and veteran measurer Victor Clark, Tim Humes, John Capurro, Slade Sanborn and Jeff Simmons.

Casey Brooks, an already renowned elk hunter, may have set a new archery world record with his latest harvest. On Dec. 31, 2024, Brooks successfully harvested a massive non-typical bull elk. Preliminary measurements suggest the bull could surpass existing records in both the Pope & Young and Boone & Crockett Club record books.
An official Boone & Crockett scorer provided a green score for the elk, indicating a gross measurement of 490 4/8 inches and a net of 480 4/8 inches. These figures exceed the current Pope & Young record held by the Felix Bull, which netted 430 inches, and the Boone & Crockett record for typical American elk, the Alonzo Winters Bull, which netted 442 5/8 inches.
Brooks, who already holds the third- and fourth-largest non-typical bull elk records in the Pope & Young Club, had been tracking this particular bull for several years. With the advantage of one of Washington state’s coveted raffle tags, he dedicated the 2024 hunting season to pursuing this exceptional animal. His commitment culminated on the final day of the hunt when the bull presented himself, and Brooks made a successful shot.

Casey Brooks may have killed the biggest non-typical elk ever. According to an Instagram post by his son Beau, Brooks arrowed the astounding bull on December 31. If it's green score holds up, the elk stands to top both the Pope & Young and Boone & Crockett Club record books for Rocky Mountain elk. The rack was scored by an official Boone & Crockett scorer, Beau Brooks says, grossing a whopping 490 4/8 and netting 480 4/8.

The current Pope & Young record for non-typical American elk is the Shean O'Shea bull, which was netted 449 4/8. The current Boone & Crockett Club record for non-typical American elk is Denny Austad's 478-5/8-inch Spider Bull.
Brooks is no stranger to trophy caliber bulls and currently holds the third- and fourth-largest non-typical bull elk in the Pope & Young Club record book. According to Beau, he had an extended history with his recent kill.
“Dad and his friends had been tracking this bull for years, finding sheds and keeping tabs on him,” explained Beau, who noted that this year Brooks committed to pursuing him after nabbing one of Washington state’s coveted raffle tags, which allow

Longtime bowhunter and Hoyt pro staffer Casey Brooks has always dreamed of tagging a world-record elk. And on Dec. 31, he killed an absolute giant of a Rocky Mountain bull that has the potential to break both the Pope and Young and the all-time Boone and Crockett records. This is according to an Instagram post that was common by Brooks’ son, Beau, and then re-shared on Hoyt Archery’s Facebook page. Brooks’ bull was given official green scores of 480 4/8 net and 490 4/8 gross, according to those posts.
“For as long as I can remember, my dad has been chasing giant bulls, coming incredibly close to this moment multiple times,” Beau wrote in his original post on Jan. 2. “Dad and his friends had been tracking this bull for years, finding sheds and keeping tabs on him.”
Details behind the hunt are slim, and neither Casey nor Beau responded immediately to requests for comment. Beau did not specify where his dad was searching for — only that he killed the bull in late December. But he tagged “Washingto

Back when world-record elk holder Shawn O’Shea guided whitetail hunters for his neighbor in central Alberta, he earned the nickname “Shamrock” for his ability to find big bucks for clients.
“With my name and my success, guys just figured I was lucky,” says O’Shea, who farms and ranches east of Edmonton in the part of the province where rolling grain fields transition to the bush, the local term for the fingers of aspen and poplar that dominate the landscape as you go north. “I’ve taken some nice animals over the years, but to my testament, I probably hunt and think about hunting 100 times more than anybody I know. When I watch TV, it’s about hunting. When I read, it’s about hunting. When I go to church, I’m praying for my family and for the chance to kill bigger bucks and bulls.”
O’Shea’s benedictions must have been received, because the 55-year-old Albertan holds the new world record for non-typical elk. The 449 4/8-inch bull, shot in September on land O’Shea has hunted since he was a boy, has been certified by the Po
