Narrative Atlas 1: The Eye of the World – From the Two Rivers to Shadar Logoth

These maps cover the first part of our heroes’ journey in The Eye of the World (Book 1 of The Wheel of Time). For a detailed summary of The Eye of the World, please follow this link.

The story begins on Winternight in the 998 NE, the final night of winter and the evening preceding Bel Tine, the celebration that marks the arrival of spring. This date falls on 8 Aine in the local calendar, approximating 23 March in our calendar. This is Day 0 of the Wheel of Time story and our subsequent counts will be (with varying degrees of approximation) from this date. Note that the dates are taken from Steven Cooper’s excellent Wheel of Time Chronology.

The story opens on the Quarry Road just west of Emond’s Field, the largest village in the rural, bucolic backwater known as the Two Rivers.

Wheel Of Time Map Fully Explained: All Major Book & Show Locations

One of the greatest parts of reading epic fantasy novels is the map that is often included in the first few pages of the book, before the novel proper begins; these maps can be phenomenal introductions to just how expansive and detailed the world of the book is. Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time is no exception, as the intricate history of the Westlands and the surrounding lands is a key component of the epic saga, rivaling J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings' expansive geography.

The Wheel of Time novels, as well as Amazon's series adapting them, entail events that span almost the entire globe; although there are some differences in each version of the story's events, their shared geography has been a constant. Author Robert Jordan drew inspiration for his world-building from many real-world places and events, weaving them together as if with the One Power into a beautiful geographic tapestry. Season 3 of The Wheel of Time will focus on some of these locations, bringing them to life on-screen like never before.

The Study of Master Roidelle: A map inspired from re reading The Eye of the World

As we progress with the Read-Through of the series, I've decided it would be fun (for me, and hopefully for you) to make a new original map for each book, picking a location (or an event, like a battle or siege) with a decent amount of description in the book. This was somewhat arduous for The Eye of the World, but I finally settled on the town of Whitebridge.

Comments and observations are welcome - for some of the future books I will even provide an early sketch of the map for comments and input and I will then complete it to publish the final version toward the end of the Read-through.

The Town of Whitebridge

Small town in Western Andor. It is located on the main west-east road, on the eastern shore of the river Arinelle. It gets its name from its towering white bridge, a modern feat of engineering made of white glass-looking material most likely dating back from before the Breaking of the World. The white bridge is fabled, being known to the Emond's Fielders from songs, stories and tales told by peddlers. Some readers have suggested that its peculiar surface may have
