AP World History Short-Answer Question on The Ottoman & Mughal Empires
👋 Welcome to the AP World Unit 3 SAQ (The Ottoman & Mughal Empires). These are shorter questions, but you'll still need to grab some paper and a pencil, or open up a blank page on your computer.
⚠️ (Unfortunately, we don't have an Answers Guide for this ask, but it can give you an idea of how an SAQ for Unit 3 might look on the exam.)
⏱ The AP World exam has a mixture of free-response questions and allotted times. For these types of questions, there will be 3 SAQs, and you will be given 40 minutes to complete the SAQ section. (This means you should give yourself ~13 minutes to go through each practice SAQ.)

AP World History Exam
The AP World History exam covers historical developments across the globe from 1200 C.E. to the present. The exam consists of two sections and must be completed within 3 hours and 15 minutes.
Section I of the test is divided into Part A and Part B. Section IA is a 55-minute, 55-question multiple choice exam that asks students to respond to one or more primary or secondary sources. There will be multiple questions paired with each source. You will need to analyze each source (which may be texts, charts, maps, images, cartoons, etc.) as well as the historical contexts and developments they describe.
Section IB is a 40-minute, 3-question short answer section. The questions are always structured the same way so you know what to expect:

This test focused on AP World History Unit 3 was created by educator Abigail Lowe, addressing the specific needs of 9th-11th grade students and designed to offer teachers a flexible tool that will help them to identify learning gaps and support students in their test prep. This quiz is an extensive review of land-based empires from 1450 to 1750, which is one of the main topics of the curriculum for AP world history. It includes 48 targeted multi-choice questions, aligned with College Board standards, that cover essential topics such as the techniques used for state-building, religious authority, and systems and relationships that facilitated the exchange of goods, services, and capital across international borders. With extensive coverage, the quiz works for independent study, classroom sessions, or as an extra AP world history practice exam that will reinforce students’ historical reasoning skills to master the unit 3 knowledge.
